SIX NATIONS OF THE GRAND RIVER MOURNS THE PASSING OF GRAHAM GREENE

 

For Immediate Release: September 3rd, 2025

 

OHSWEKEN, ON  Six Nations of the Grand River (SNGR) mourns the passing of Graham Greene, actor, storyteller, and community member, who passed away peacefully on August 31 at the age of 73.

 

Greene was a trailblazer for First Nations representation in film and television, opening doors for generations to come. From his Oscar-nominated performance as Best Supporting Actor in Dances with Wolves to unforgettable roles in Die Hard with a VengeanceThe Green Mile, and Thunderheart, Greene’s work left a lasting impact on the industry.

 

His award-winning career earned him recognition as a Member of the Order of Canada, induction into Canada’s Walk of Fame, and most recently, the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement.

 

Elected Chief Sherri-Lyn Hill shared, “Graham Greene shared the stories and resilience of our people in every role he played. Graham brought pride to our community, and his legacy will continue to be honoured and inspire future generations. I send my condolences to his family and friends, and all who were impacted by his life and work.”

 

SNGR extends our heartfelt condolences to his wife, daughter, grandson, and anyone who knew and cared for him. His influence will continue to inspire our community for years to come.
