Land Acknowledgement for Ontario

Honouring the Territory of the Six Nations Civilization and Democracy

We respectfully acknowledge that the city of Brantford is situated on the Sacred Territory of the Haudenosaunee ~ Six Nations of Grand River. This land is also part of the ‘Dish with One Spoon’ Wampum, a treaty among Indigenous Nations in the region, to share the posterity and to care for the resources around the Great Lakes, into perpetuity.

The City of Brantford, is situated within this Sacred Territory of the Six Nations; a tract of land that was negotiated by Treaty, between the British Crown and he Six Nations of the Grand River in 1784; way before Canada was a Country and before Ontario, was a Province.  The Mohawk, Seneca, Cayuga, Oneida, Onondaga and Tuscarora were assigned these lands, by negotiated treaty, for their allegiance with the Crown during the American Revolution, for them to enjoy forever!

It must be remembered; the Six Nations Civilization gave birth to the first civil democracy in the world: the Six Nations Confederacy. To this day, the Six Nations do not derogate or abrogate from:  their Sacred Genesis, as precious Onkwehonweh people of the Stars,  the ideology and principles of the Great Law, and the imperatives of their Moral Code and the Moral Compass of the Creator, Shögwayadishöh.  This knowledge, ideology, spirituality and intellect gives birth to their beautiful, state of mind and sacred spirit!

Today, we Honour the enduring presence and contributions of all Indigenous peoples, settlers and immigrants, who have come to live on this Sacred Territory at Grand River and who continue to ensure and provide for its perpetual care… without question.

Going forward; we commit ourselves: to the ongoing process of reconciliation and its beautiful facets of shimmering gratitude, as we strive to rebuild respectful relationships among ourselves, so as to make Canada, more ‘civilized’ and as we try to repolish the tarnish the Crown.
